Religious Incentives

Do you use incentives or rewards in your class or homeschool? There are several ways that you can reward kids for doing such as behavior, completing homework, memorizing verses, or other things.

In my religious education class (CCD), I use Bible Bucks.  These come in the same amounts that our currency comes in, with a couple extras.  Students can earn Bible Bucks for returning their folder to class each week, doing homework, and other such matters.  Usually about every 3 weeks I let the kids shop in the Gospel Store.

Most of the items in the Gospel Store are things that I purchase at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree.  I try to find toys and items related to the Bible.  I’ve had items like small stuffed animals such as a whle for Jonah and the Whale or Bible story books.  I price the items for sale by size and the biggest is no more than 5 Bible Bucks and the smallest would be 1 Bible Buck.  I store the pieces in containers that I get at Dollar Tree and tag each bin with the price of that the objects in that bin.

Oriental Trading also has lot of sets of small Chrisitan toys and novelties.  These not only work great in the Gospel Store, but they’re also perfect for the Treasure Chest.

Incentives are a fantastic tool in the classroom or at home to reward the kids.  It encourages them to keep working hard and to be responsible.  It’s always fun to watch them shop in the Gospel Store and in my class, they love to keep up with how many Bible Bucks that they’ve saved.

If you’d like to use the Bible Bucks that I’ve made, please click the image below for more information or just add them to your cart.  Only the bundle is shown below, but it’s a saving of 20% off the individual sets (color/bw)!

I know that it’s been awhile, but I have a “Subscriber ONLY” printable that I just uploaded and I’m excited about it. If you don’t already subscribe to the newsletter, you can do so in the right hand column. I don’t like spam either, so you’ll only receive a newsletter when there’s a new blog post.  Each newsletter has the current password to the “For Subscribers” page.   You also have the option to get the additional newsletter when I post new items in the Shop.

This printable is Pope Francis’ 5 Finger Prayer Poster and Worksheet Pack.  It includes 1 poster in color and the on the reverse side, you can print the meaning of the prayer fingers in English or Spanish.  In addition to that, there’s a page that can be used as a poster or print multiple on a page to attach to desk as a reminder.

Finally, there are 3 worksheets.  These worksheets include cut and paste, label, and matching.  They’ll work for a variety of ages/grades to teach, review, or anything to suit your needs for Pope Francis’ 5 Finger Prayer.

I hope that all subscribers like this freebie, but more so that the kids enjoy it!!

Ash Wednesday Fun and Learning

Last night’s lesson was all about Ash Wednesday and how it’s the first day of Lent.  Advent and Lent are always interesting concepts to teach the kids when it’s all about “waiting” and “preparing”.  At their age, they’re just ready for Santa and the Easter Bunny.  They soak up the information like sponges!!

Ash Wednesday Craftivity cover

After our discussion about Lent, we focused on Ash Wednesday and did this activity page.  Since we attend mass as part of class on Ash Wednesday, it’s important the kids know all about the ashes so they know what to expect.  After that, we practiced for mass….several times!!  Our final activity was a little craft that I made for the kids.  They colored the pictures to look like themselves and then we took black paint and put a cross on the foreheads with their thumb.

To see the a few of the final projects, just click here and click here to see how my class did them on Instagram.  You don’t have to have an account and it’s worth it because they’re just adorable for being 3-5 years old!!

Clipart has Arrived at The Schoolhouse

Well, I told you that I hoped to be adding a clipart line to The Schoolhouse and that’s happened!!

ArmorOfGod PREVIEW byTheIllustrated Schoolhouse1

This first set is for the Armor of God.  They’re in PNG format, so they have transparent backgrounds.  It includes the color and black & white versions.  There’s a total of 16 pieces.  They can be layered to dress the boy and girl in the full Armor of God.  You can get them for $4.

I wish I could take credit for these great pieces, but my husband is the artist.  He drew them on paper and then we scanned them into the computer.  I colored them and formatted them.  We hope you’ll go by The Schoolhouse at TPT or TN to check them out!!

Flippin’ for Colors

Here’s a new freebie for all of you, my readers.  There’s ONE catch though….

This is available only for a limited time!!  I don’t know when I’ll remove it, so grab it while you can!!

This is “Flippin’ Out for Colors” cards.  They have multiple uses, but they all work on colors.  You can cut them out and mount them inside a file folder and the player will then place the color label in the correct space.  You can use them for memory match/concentration by printing off 2 of each card and laminating them with the color words on them.  They can also be used as label cards so the child can label each card with the correct color of the sea shell.  Finally, they can also be used as flashcards by mounting the correct color word in the space or on the back so they can self-check.  The color words also come in 2 styles….black font and the color font.

Here’s a sample of the cards….

Clipart © Trina Clark @ DigiScrapKits and it is used with permission.  The cover frame © Dancing Crayon Designs and the cover background © Tracee Orman.  Both are used with permission and both sell on TPT.
