Let’s Talk About Blogging

blogging vector graphic

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that I’m not great at blogging.  I swear that I’m going to do better and it’s not that I don’t try, but it just doesn’t happen.  I used to love to blog.  Then I think it began to feel like work to me.  I wasn’t sure it was worth it.  I know that many of you have followed me for years and I truly appreciate it.  It takes time and patience to read blogs or even to read the newsletters from the blog.

woman typing on laptop with cell phone close by

I recently watched a class on blogging and it made me realize how very much I miss it.  Plus, I know that I have this amazing following that has stuck by me through it all.  So now, what’s this woman to do?

Well, I’m going to make an honest effort to get back into blogging.  I know better than to make promises.  I’m going to start slow and work my way up.  For now, I’m going to start at one blog post a month and see if I can do that consecutively for a couple of months.  Yes, ONE post a month now.  I’ve got to start someplace!  If I can do that, I’m going to move up to blogging twice a month.  I’d really love to maintain that.  How does that sound to all of you?

My ultimate goal will be to blog once a week….or 4 times a month.  I don’t know if that’s possible for me.  I’m constantly going different directions and blogging is going to require my focus.  The good news is that I can get it all typed out and schedule it to post!  Oh my goodness, imagine this blog and this site active again.  We’ll have to see and well, I feel good about this right now!

So what I need from all of you is to know what you’d like to see.  Of course, I’m going to blog about the things that I love.  I’d like your opinion too.  Leave a comment on this post and let me know what you’d like to see from me.  It can be about a topic, how to use a product, life, photography, religion/religious education, and well, just about anything that might interest you.  I’ll do it, if it’s within my power or realm of knowledge.  If it’s something that I don’t know about or something, I’ll let you know.  I promise, I won’t just ignore you!  Again, reply to this post about what type of things would interest you to see here.

Oh and yes, more frequent blogging will probably mean a few more freebies posted on the blog/site and in the “For Subscribers ONLY” area.

Here’s to the future of blogging….well, ME blogging!

A New Subscriber FREEbie

I know that it’s been forever and I appreciate all of you that continue to support and follow The Treasured Schoolhouse.  I don’t know why, but no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to keep up with my blog.  Actually, I don’t seem to be good at much on social media!

This year, I’m teaching my religion class via ZOOM.  It’s been interesting to say the least.  Since I have Kindergarten, I’m sending packets home to the parents for the students to work on.  It’s gone pretty well so far.  I do have a couple kids that have never shown up.  It has been a challenge to get the copies run and in the mail on time for the classes though, so I decided that I was going to do one huge pack for the rest of the year!  I was a couple lesson short, so I decided I’d create something for them to do.

The Lost Sheep Worksheet & Coloring Pack cover with Jesus and sheep

What I came up with what the parable of The Lost Sheep.  I made everything that I’ll need for class.  The best part, I’m sharing it with my newsletter subscribers ONLY!  All verses in the pack are based on New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE) of the Bible.  This pack includes:

  • Word Search
  • Maze
  • Copywork for Matthew 18:10 and Luke 15:7 to print and trace
  • Coloring Pages for Matthew 18:12-13 and Luke 15:5-6
  • Answer Keys for Word Search and Maze

If you’d like to get this pack, you can go to the Home page or the right sidebar to subscribe to my newsletter.  You’ll receive the password in the confirmation e-mail, so please be sure to confirm in order to have access to the Subscriber Only page!

Thanks again for following along, no matter how much or low little it is.  I appreciate you more than you know!

Time for Back to School….and a Sale

Hello all!

I know that it’s been forever since I’ve posted.  I’ve been busy though.  I’m guessing that you all have been as well.  I’m hoping that this finds you healthy and safe.

notebook with TpT back to school sale info

First, the big thing is the site-wide Back to School sale on TpT.  Everything at The Treasured Schoolhouse will be 20% off.  With code BTS20, you can get an extra 5% off.  The sale will be 4-5 August and if you add the code, you’ll get up to 25% off.

In addition to that sale, my shop at Made for Teachers will be on sale as well.  Everything will be 20% off from 4-6 August.  I’ll be adding more resources to The Treasured Schoolhouse at that location in the next couple of days as well.

I’ve been getting to work on adding the digital layer to my resources.  As I said in my last blog post, the digital layer adds a layer to PDFs so that they can be used in Google Classroom.  They aren’t Google Classroom resources, but with this tool, they can be assigned and turned in via that process.  The tool allows the buyer or seller to add answer boxes, and has a pen and highlighter tool.  I’m working on updating my resources so that you don’t have to do it and can easily access them for your Google Classroom needs.  Again, remember that it’s just a layer and not an actual resource type so that you can assign them in that format.  I’m keeping a list of all the resources that I’ve updated.  It states the resource name, how many pages, and in most cases which pages/activities.  You can click here to view the list.  I’ll keep it updated as I add more materials with the layer.  Also, you can still get the PDF and have access to the digital layer!

I think that about covers it for now.  I hope that you have an amazing start to the school year.  Happy shopping!

Temporary Update to TOU

"update" in purple box

Hello all!  In an effort to help my buyers and followers, I’m doing a temporary update to my Terms of Use (TOU).  Please read below for the complete update.

update on blue arrow with other blue and white arrows

With the current situation of schools being closed and masses, as well as religious education/Sunday School classes being cancelled, I’m opening my TOU to try to help you get the resources to the students.  Please note that these are temporary updates and there are stipulations, so please read thoroughly.

Here are the changes to the TOU….

  1. You may upload resources to a site, BUT it must be secured.  That means that parents/students require a password or something similar to access the resources.  That way, others can’t do a random Google search and it shows up in the search results for just anyone to download.
  2. You may use my resources on Google (Drive, Classroom) for access by your students/families.  They should be the one ones allowed access and the link shouldn’t be shared with anyone but your own class.
  3. You may send my resources via e-mail so that your students/families can have access to them.
  4. You may print off my resources and put in packets to handout to your students/families to work on at home.  This should only be done for class.

terms of use text on blue arrow with other blue and white arrows

Here are the Terms for being able to do the above….

  1. My name/copyright must stay in-tact on each page.
  2. The resources you purchase are only for your classroom and must not be shared with other teachers/classes.  You can purchase additional licenses for a discount price if other teachers are interested in the resource.
  3. These temporary changed to my TOU are only effective until 30 April.  At that time, I will re-access the situation and see how many schools and churches are still closed and/or doing distance learning.

I hope that this is of help to all of you.  I know that this is a trying time for all of us.  I want to help as much as I possibly can.  Additional things that I’m trying to do is update the freebies on my blog and make sure that all the links are working to download.  This is quite time consuming and not going as quickly as I want.  I’m trying though.  Don’t forget that if you sign-up for my newsletter that you also get a password to the resource library for subscribers only.  There’s not a lot there, but I do try to reward my followers.

Everyone, please stay safe and healthy.  Remember your social distancing.  And please, contact me if you have any questions or concerns about my resources or these updated terms.

Help Australia

Australia with kangaroo cartoon

Hello all and a very Happy 2020 to you all!  It has already been a busy new year for me….and I’m sure for many of you as well.

I want to start by talking about the bushfires in Australia.  As you probably know, much of the land has been burned and many animals have been lost, not to mention the loss of life and homes.  I want to do something to help the people of Australia.

AusTeacherBFR sale banner for Australia charity

For the month of January, for my resources with #austeacherBFR, the sales will be donated to Australia.  The charity that I’ve chosen is Vinnies Bushfire Appeal.  You can read more about them if you click here.  I currently only have 2 resources as part of this fundraiser, but plan to add 1 more, if not 2 more.  Again, all sales with #austeacherBFR will be donated to charity.  If you’re not interested on those materials, I’d be happy to swap another resource that you do want to purchase and donate the sale from that.  You can also search that hashtag on TpT to find all the resources that other teachers have for sale and are using to donate to their chosen Australian charity.

Thank you for considering helping me support this charity to help the people of Australia!

I hope that you all have a wonderful new year and are blessed!

New and Expanding

"new" button - round blue

I’m back for an update and some news!  First I want to start off by saying that I’ve temporarily closed down my Shop here at The Treasured Schoolhouse.  I do intend to reopen it, but it’ll be a couple of months.  It was taking too long to do my updates, so I decided instead of letting it looks messy and only half complete, that I’d just close it and get things back on track.  I expect with the holidays here, that it will take some time and I can do it little by little this way.  I do have other locations where you can shop The Treasured Schoolhouse though and I hope that you’ll take the opportunity to visit me at those locations.

I’m happy to announce that Amazon has started a new Digital Educational Resources section on their site.  You will now be able to find resources from The Treasured Schoolhouse there!

Amazon Ignite logo

This new digital educational resources area of Amazon is called Ignite.  I’m honored to say that I was part of the beta testing process and am now part of the marketplace.  The Treasured Schoolhouse is one of the featured sellers, among many other great educational goods stores.  I hope that you’ll be sure to check out The Treasured Schoolhouse on Amazon Ignite!  If you’d like to visit, just click on the logo above.

Finally, I’ve added a new resource to the Subscriber’s Only page.  This one is a simple game for Christmas to celebrate the nativity.  The password is included in the newsletter and if you haven’t subscribed yet to the newsletter, please do.  You can request to subscribe on the sidebar of this blog or by going Home.  I have plans to add at least one more resource before Christmas, but I haven’t decided if it’ll be a Subscriber Only or for everyone, so keep an eye out!

St. Nicholas and Advent

I can’t believe that it’s almost time for Advent already.  I’m starting to do my prep for my class and I like to do a simple activity with them to teach them the basic colors of Advent.

The Colors of Advent with St. Nicholas cover art

This year I decided to tie my introduction in with St. Nicholas.  It’s just as simple activity where they’ll each get a little card with the colors of each week and they have to color the card.  I’m giving this to all of you as a FREEbie in hopes that it’ll help introduce Advent into your setting as well.  Also included is a color version in case you just want to pass that out instead.

sample pages of "The Colors of Advent with St. Nicholas"

The cards really are perfect for any age level or even to pass out in church as an introduction to Advent.  And who doesn’t love St. Nicholas?  I hope that you enjoy and are a help to you.  If you’re interested in these cards, just click to….

Thanks for reading and see you soon!

Updating

"update" road sign

Hello all!!

I know it’s been forever since I’ve done a blog post.  I feel horrible because when I get busy, this is the first thing that seems to fall aside for me.  I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of you for sticking by me and The Treasured Schoolhouse.  You are the BEST and I know it!!

colorful "update" blocks

This is just basically going to be an update as to what’s going on and what you can expect to be happening around here.  First I’m starting with updating all the freebies that are on the blog.  Many of them haven’t been available for quite some time for various reasons.  I’m going to update them and make them usable again.  I’m not going to work on them in any certain order, but I hope to get to all of them in somewhat of a timely manner.  The exception will be those that are Seuss, Disney, and other characters like those.  I’ve learned a lot over time and I fully understand now that those are in violation and won’t ever be available again.  They were also the first I deactivated when I found out how serious of an issue it is.  We all learn and grow….or we should!!

Next up is The Treasured Schoolhouse Shop.  I’m still getting random orders despite there being no photos or real store front.  I want to work on getting those images back up and make the resources fully available.  The good thing is that other than the “Exclusive” materials, everything can be purchased on the other marketplaces where I sell my resources.

The “Subscriber Only” page will be getting some additions as well.  I’m thinking that this will be a slow process as I really want to get the blog freebies updated.  It’s hard to work on new and old at the same time.  However, there will be some new materials coming to that page and hopefully soon as I truly appreciate all of you who have subscribed and joined my mailing list.

I think that about covers everything.  It’s going to be a long process, but it WILL happen.  If there’s anything that you’ve been wanting and it’s not available, please let me know and I’ll work on those first.  See you next time!!

Site Maintenance

I don’t know how much you’ve been paying attention to The Treasured Schoolhouse, but it was down for a bit.  My contract was up with my host, so I transferred to a new one.  In the process, I lost everything!

With the help of my new host, we’ve managed to restore just about everything.  There are still many gaps in the site that I’m working on little by little.  If you notice things amiss, fear not, we’re in maintenance mode!  You may find downloads not working or images that aren’t visible….or other glitches like that.  Hopefully they’ll all be back to normal soon.  Please remember though that if a post/download is marked as “expired” it can be found in my shop or stores.  If a post/download is marked as “discontinued” it is no longer available.

Where the most work needs to be done is with orders that customers have made from the Shop.  The orders are there, but the downloads are missing.  This is at the top of my list to get fixed.  If you have any issues, please contact me and I’ll get to work on it immediately.  Also, the “Subscribers Only” page is down.  That is also a top priority to get the site up and properly running.

I do appreciate everyone’s patience through this.  I don’t have a timeline for completion, but I’m working hard and doing it on my own.  For most of you, this really isn’t going to change things at all.  For others, you may see glitches here or there, but we should be in good form and ready to go!
